2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix

The Glitz and the glam of the Las Vegas strip is even striking for team Ferrari as they take a break to pose under the welcome sign before the big race. Good luck team!

Did You Know?

Here are some of the top landmark / attractions for your trip to Las Vegas, Nevada!

Las Vegas Welcome Sign

Built in 1959 for $4 thousand dollars. This frequent photo-op sign was owned by Western Neon, who was purchased by YESCO who now leases the sign to Clark County. With Vegas reaching over 40 Million visitors as of March 2023, you can bet this sign is one of the top spots to visit.

Bellagio Fountains

The fountains of the Bellagio hotel is second best to none on the strip. At a cost of $40 million dollars, the fountain consists of 1,214 water nozzles and 4,792 lights and can reach a height of 460 feet. The lake holds 22 million gallons of water and the fountain is considered one of the most expensive in the world.

The Strat Hotel, Casino & Tower

At 1,149 ft and a cost of $70 million dollars, the Strat Tower (formerly the Stratosphere) is a must see. Considered the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States, this structure also houses some of the most daring thrill seeking rides in Las Vegas. Big Shot, is one of the world’s highest amusement rides. Once seated, guests get shot an additional 160 feet off the top of the high deck of the tower at 45mph. Generating 4Gs, you feel like you are being launched into space (it was formerly called ‘Space Shot’)! This is quite the site to see in the evenings looking down on all of the Las Vegas city lights.

Carlos Sainz speeds through the ancient Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacan just barely avoiding Quetzalcoatl the feathered serpent on his way to a podium finish!

Did You Know?

Teotihuacan, meaning ‘the place where gods were created’ consisted of thousands of single story dwellings as well as pyramids, palaces and more. The city was over 8 square miles designed in a grid like structure and had an estimated population of two hundred thousand at its peak. The main road named ‘the Avenue of the Dead’ connects structures such as the pyramid of the sun (third largest pyramid in the world) as well as the pyramid of the moon and others.

Although it is unknow who built the city of Teotihuacan, it was influenced by many different civilations including the: Totonacs, Mixtecs, Toltecs, Zapotecs, Aztecs and more.

There are those who believe (a nod to Battlestar Galactica and Ancient Alien fans):

2023 Qatar Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc is charged to win the Qatar Grand Prix as he launches across the circuit from the purpose-built, smart city of Lusail.

Did You Know?

Bennato has broken the record with three back to back Scuderia Ferrari covers in 2023! There have been other cover artists that have produced three or more covers in a year (Mastrazzo with 5 in 2017), but never consecutive. Congrats!

Lusail City

Words such as: smart city, sustainable city, e-green city, ecological, energy saving, purposely built, energy efficient, environmentally friendly, smart infrastructure; have all been used to describe Lusail city. Supposedly everything was thought of in the planning of Lusail including the psychology of those working and living there. Included are pedestrian & cycle networks and tunnels, water taxis, light rail, and more. Is this the perfect city of the future? You decide and share in the comments below.

Meet the Artist – Tommaso Bennato CV

Tommaso Bennato is an Italian comic book artist and illustrator of the Naples’s suburb. In 2004 he attended “Scuola Internazionale di Comics” in Rome, where he specialized in foreign comics. He worked with various publishers: CLAIR DE LUNE, NARRATIVES, DELCOURT. During that period he moved to France, and
spent 4 years working on books of historic backgrounds such as “Les Sept Merveilles –
L’étoile tombée sur la terre” e “L’homme de l’année T8 : -44 : L’homme qui voulut venger César”. He
also collaborated with the art studio of N.E.M.O. 360 as a concept artist and character designer for
videogames. Bennato eventually returned to Italy and started work on his own webcomic (written and drawn by him) called “Inarime”, published online via Webtoon by Naver Corp (Korea). Bennato also worked as the Art Director and Designer of 3D statues for “Caronte Studios”. Currently, he is working on “ La Couronne de Verre” with the publisher Editions Delcourt.

The Art of Formula 1 | Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium | With Artist, Elena Casagrande

2023 Belgian Grand Prix

Carlos Sainz defies all laws of physics as he glides through the canals of Spiegelrei Bruges at 51.212771, 3.228935
Fantastic job by Elena Casagrande, including reflections, motion blur, jagged rooftop edges, building bends due to perspective and / or Sainz just ripping through the center of the image, with low sunlight on the left and shadow and darkness on the right. The residue from the car trail resembles paint splatter more than water as if Sainz drove over Casagrande’s drying masterpiece to say ‘don’t forget me’ as he zoomed by. Very interesting and exciting work!

Did You Know?

Bruges is sometimes referred to the Venice of the North because of its canals, festivals and culture.

canals of Spiegelrei Bruges

Celebrations happen throughout the year and include Carnivals.

The canals are quite breathtaking

The history and culture is plentiful with much to discover.

Located in the Groeningemuseum at Eekhout Abbey is The Last Judgment. Similar to Casagrande’s cover with light on the left and dark on the right, this work depicts angels & demons, and heaven on the left with hell on the right. The work was completed by Hieronymus Bosch or a calloboration of the artist and his workshop.
